UPDATE: 6/13/12
Alvin had a very long day today. Thankfully it is mostly all positive. This morning I went and visited him and when I arrived, the nurse told me he has been placed on isolation for MRSA. His case is slight to moderate right now so they started him on a different antibiotic this morning after his mucus cultures showed the MRSA. Now, before entering his room, you must put on spiffy blue gloves and a sunny yellow gown. NO PROBLEM!!
I asked Lani to find a few of his favorite movies that we could watch during the day. Todays movie was "Shadow Riders". Tom Selleck and Sam Elliot, great cast. We closed the door and dove into the movie. Al enjoyed it alot....THANKS LANI!
I brought some baby lotion with me today so I could massage his hands, arms feet and legs. It smelled like a baby nursery in there!! Better than being stuffy. His strength in his legs and feet is pretty darn good in my opinion, his grip with his left hand is weak, past issues contributes to this, and his right hand grip in moderate to good. He had the strength today to be able to rub his eyes and reach over to his left shoulder to point out a sore spot from his neck collar. The gals in the CCU at CMH are terrific!!
His face is clean shaven and has been cleaned/bathed daily since he arrived here. I combed his hair today, told him it was looking like Phyllis Diller, he likes the humor. Got him all ready and fresh for his special visitors today....His darling wife, Rik, Linda and Chet. Kevin, Lani, Jan, Hank and I were there on and off all day. WHEW! He will sleep well tonight I am sure.
His doctor said that his chest sounds are getting much better. Not as much coughing or mucus today....still not swallowing, so suction is used as needed. He either calls nurse or if he has the suction close, he does it himself. Not too sure yet why the swallowing is such an issue. He was doing therapy for it with a Speech therapist, however he aspirated some soda, possibly the beginning of the pneumonia.
Alvin defintely looks much better today than the past few days. Very thankful he is at CCU/CMH. Being cared for properly. I am going back in the morning to visit and watch another show. Will update tomorrow evening. Say an extra prayer....they are so appreciated.
Hi all, hope this post reaches you in happiness and good health!
