WOOT WOOT!!
Today was a great day for Alvin!! This morning there was a cancellation at CMH, so Al hitched a ride from Medix and went to have an xray on his neck to check the bone growth! The results were faxed to OHSU, however, I did get over to CMH and requested a copy of the images and report.....yep, I picked them up this afternoon! After reviewing the report, it looks like his neck is healing properly and well. Alot of medical terminology, but with Lani handy with Google and Melissa helping us out, we all came to the same colclusion-----and a sigh of relief. Of course we should hear something from the doctor next week.....will keep you all posted!
Before Al was taken on his much needed field trip, he had OT. They helped him put on HIS snap up shirt, HIS lounge pants and HE combed HIS OWN HAIR!! Excellent!! After the field trip and a little nap, PT came in and helped him sit on the edge of the bed and worked his legs and arms until he could barely move!! He is doing so well! He pushes himself, but not TOO far, tries to keep everyone happy including himself. Jan, Lani, Rik, Gary, Hank & I all visited him throughout the day. He did sleep on and off--more power to him! His skin color and his demeanor is so positive! His sparkle in the eye is definately apparent and he is soooooo ready to go home.....I am sure Rik is ready too.
Al doesnt have therapy on the weekends, but he likes to squish his blue ball with his left hand. Today when I gave it to him, he grabbed my hand and the ball......totally caught me off guard. He laughed and said " HAHA I got ya!" Love it when he does silly things like that, keeps us on our toes too.
Jan told me today that she ordered a yearly notebook size planner for me! She says, " I think you are really going to need it" Yes I do and will! I am a very visual person, highlight the days with different colors.....LOVE MY CALENDARS!! They really keep me on track, because I write EVERYTHING down! Hank laughs at me, but understands that it keeps me SAIN! hahahaha
tomorrow we are going to pick up a white board to hang in Al's room. We like to leave notes for all to see, lol again with writing everything down..... but it is nice to know who the aides are and special updates. Just hope the staff understands and participates....most of them will I am sure. Al has really grown on some of the staff. They come in and check on him just because he makes them smile! Sometimes it looks like Al is in the "POPULAR CROWD" because there are so many people in his room alot of the time. Al sure soaks it up too. He brags to everyone about his family! Especially about him and Rik. He tells them how much she means to him and about their marriage being so strong. Again, waving my face with my girly hand, tears are welling.......just fabulous.
I didnt take any pics of Al today, but will share some great family photos taken on Mother's Day.
Thank you all again for all the support. Alvin is so loved by many, and he feels it in his heart. I know it helps him get stronger everyday.
