Hello Everyone!!
Isolation is still a part of hAl's daily routine, so the gowns and gloves are required. After all his visitors today, it looked like a curb in NYC waiting for the trash to be picked up, yellow gowns and gloves everywhere!
When I arrived this morning Al was getting a spa treatment....well, kinda. He was being all cleaned up, clean linens, gown, hair washed, partial shave and a bit of oral care. Poor guys lips and tongue were just ON FIRE!! However, the swelling from the thrush has gone down alot. I asked him to stick his tongue out so I could see it....there are a few nasty sores, but looks so much better, in my opinion...I also told him that now he may stick his tongue out at me if I start to bug him..hahaha. His attitude this morning was full of sarcasm and a pretty clear voice! He is still swallowing just slightly, but everyday he gets a little more spunk! Once the crew was complete with their duties, I visited with him for a little while before heading out to plant some squash plants with my friend. I share my daily news with him everyday....even if it is just talking about silly things.
Shortly after I left, Lacy was there to visit and Al had a horrible catheter episode. Poor guy...so much pain in his gut, evidently the catheter had plugged or kinked causing intense pain very quickly! He was very vocal about the pain. Vocal, I think wow good for him....and his lungs, but bummer it was because of pain. Well, needless to say, the catheter came out this evening. This is a great step for him. I am sure it is a little more comfortable too. The pain has subsided and he was able to enjoy his afternoon of visitors.
April, Joe, Riley and Andrew came for a visit today. Dr. Andrew and Dr. Riley were so cute in their gowns and gloves. After a little while in Al's room they were getting a little restless, so I invited them on a tour of the facility. I was overjoyed when they escorted me down the halls. We went down to the nurses station, read the activity calendar and then went out to the garden/patio area and found some tomato plants and also a couple different types of lettuce growing. We smelled some flowers and watched the fountain. It will be a beautiful place to visit when Al is ready. Then we went and checked out the PT room. Poking our heads in, we saw the weights, mats and other things that Grandpa Al uses to get stronger....those boys are just adorable. We then proceeded back upstairs and got suited up again to enter the room. Before entering, I just could not resist. I had to blow up a glove like a balloon, on for each boy. Riley went right in and asked Grandpa Al if he needed an extra hand!!! IT WAS PRICELESS! Andrew kept a hold of his and kept me and himself entertained for awhile. Al was so happy to see everyone. He did tell me that he felt terrible for scaring Lacy earlier though. I told him that she was also able to see him get some relief, so she is going to be alright. He is just keeping all of us on our toes.
Overall, today was once again full of ups and downs. Thankful that the ups are more and more fruitful! Oh, I forgot to mention...when the staff was getting him all comfortable after his spa moment, one gal said she needed to lift his left leg to place the pillows securely under his calf...and right before my eyes, he kicked up that leg like it was no problem!! I was so amazed! I told him how proud I was of him for lifting his leg so well, just one step closer to going home.
Again, thanks for reading these updates. I do pass on the prayers and love everyone sends. He appreciates it so much too. Keep it up! Prayers are so awesome. It is really that power that makes everyday a little easier for all of us. I hope everyone has a fabulous Friday! the weekend is almost upon us!! Until tomorrow....
